Pouring Gas from Carb

Hey guys. i'm working on a 1983 C10 350 Auto w/ Rochester Quadrajet Carb. When I start the truck it goes full rev & gas starts badly overflowing the carb. Any ideas on what to check first? I've already fixed a vacuum leak & adjusted the idle bolt & throttle cable

long time since I worked on a qaudrajet! But, something is stuck! Either a float asking for more fuel? or the choke? I'm guessing you'll get a better answer than this soon but that is my best guess!

Floats are out of adjustment or just crummy.

Pinch the rubber fuel hose closed, start the engine and let it run out of gas. Release the fuel line, try and restart it. Try this a couple times, if that doesn’t clear the needle/seat, it’s time to remove the top of the carb.

You do have a fuel filter installed I assume?

I agree with the assessments above, but if you’re nearing or past 200K miles, I’d do the standard workup on it. Well plugs sealed, primary throttle shaft bushing, rebuild. The bushing requires a press, which you may have to outsource that service, but the rest is DIY-friendly. If you have relatively low miles, I wouldn’t scramble to do a bunch of work on the carb if it’s just a (relatively) simple glitch.

it might sound dumb and obvious.. but it also doesnt entirely explain the gas overflow, but is your throttle return spring on? I spent 10 minutes diagnosing a no start/start at redline that was me forgetting a spring.

Hey guys! Thank you for all the replies. It's been a busy few days & I haven't checked any further yet. But the truck has a fresh fuel filter & 143,000 Miles & the previous owners did not take care of it mechanical wise. I'm gonna do a full tune up once I get the motor to at least idle right. I'll get to it this week & let you know!

^ Prolly stuck float or gunk in the needle if it wasn't kept up previously. Running an engine that has a varnished up carb has a way of knocking that crap loose after a little while.

This excellent advice and same advice I've given many people.But 1more tap on the carb near the needle and seat after you've run the bowl dry a couple of times many times that will unstuck a stuck needle.
