Parking brake cable routing

Does anyone have a diagram of the parking brake cable?
The entire system is missing from my truck except for the cables to the rear drums and the foot pedal in the cab.

While on this subject....

Anyone know the secret to removing these cables? It looks pretty straight forward, but I'm referring to the push through fingered keepers. I normally end up just breaking them. Anyone know of any easier way or a secret method that actually will work to reuse the same parts?

:think: Sometimes I'm just smarter thun I thank I be. :gr_grin:

A hose clamp, a screwdriver and a couple light taps with a hammer on the end of the screwdriver and out it comes all in one piece. As soon as I took the clamp back off the fingers opened right back up so they can be reused. I just did 2 of them this way. Worked like a charm. :waytogo:

Some probably don't find it important, but believe it or not, when you pull a rear end to sell, it sure helps when you can tell the buyers that the E brake cables are there and in tact. Most of the rear ends I see pulled, have the cables cut and that just sux. Especially if you're buying a 14b FF for an upgrade cuz I don't believe the cables are the same on the 10/12 bolts as they are on the 14b FF where they meet the backing plate. This means you could have to spend another $40-$50 on E brake cables.

Cut E brake cables and Cut wiring harnesses on trucks has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves. Even if you're scrapping the vehicle, someone may have had a wiring fire and can use it. No sense in butchering the damn thing up to save 10-15 minutes.

I hate it when people cut cables too, I use a 1/2" or 13mm 12 point box end wrench on the tabs (works on most cables,sometimes smaller or larger), slide it over and twist just a little while lightly pulling on jacketed cable, breaks most free pretty easy.

I'll have to give that one a try next time. Although, the small hose clamp trick very well and was easy. Trick is to tighten it just enough to close the fingers, then couple firm taps and out it comes. To tight, then you have to hit it harder and risk damaging the cable.

I agree with you guys about cutting cables, wire harnesses, brake lines, etc. I recently parted out a truck and some guy bought the fuel lines and wire harness for the dual tank set up. if I would have just cut it up, no sale. extra 100 bucks for just taking my time. highdesertranger
