Painting 2-tone / std cab / 8ft bed

Its not bare metal, very little body work is needed and I have a good brand picked out. Just wondered how much material anyone else who did a similar job used.

It will be different from product to product. Do what waterpirate said! Whatever product you use, read the idiot sheets! Then read them again! That will tell you exactly how to use the product you picked out, and how much area it will cover on average. Ask the paint tech at the paint shop you buy from for estimates of coverage. He will know painters that use those products and they will most likely have mentioned how well they cover and how much coverage to expect. Gun pressure, skill, humidity.... all affect coverage. Don't under buy paint unless you don't mind a 2nd rate looking paint job when you run out and still haven't gotten your truck covered well.

@Grit dog, @Doppleganger I'm also using Tamco and if you are wanting a specific Chevy OEM color they have a fillable form which asks What you are painting cab, doors, fenders panels etc. Base on the info you give them they will tell you approx. how much you need. They will also tell you how much coverage in sq ft each product will do in a perfect world. This is the 1st time spraying any automotive paint thru a gun and learning everytime I spray.

I also would recommend the Rockler mixing mate paint can pourer. They have gallon and quart sizes so waste is a minimum.

^ Or just call and talk to Bob. But have some time set aside. He’ll tell you more than you ever cared to know…in a good way.
Obviously the quality of paint is only partly evident when you paint a car and the rest is how well it holds up compared to conditions you subject it to, but this far, zero complaints.
And my main base coat color came out totally wrong the first time. Mark at Tamco handled it very professionally and no issue with mixing up another can for me. $350 (retail) gallon of paint, no charge.
Hard to not brag about their customer service.

Update. Everything done except the inside of the bed.
Used approx 1gal of light blue base coat (1/2 gal + reducer @ 1:1), just over a quart (sprayable qty) of dark blue and right about 2 gal of clear (sprayable qty @ 2:1 with hardener).
Inside the bed will eat up a bunch more depending what I do with it.

Do you value your bed to be utility or you want body color for show appearance?
Or even if not that, just body color to match I guess, if you are going utility it could save you paint if you put another material for whatever purpose down and maybe whatever you choose to put down could be painted over possibly

@Grit dog Raptor liner has tintable bed liner. I sprayed mine white. Came out great but don’t know durability yet.

Yea I'm gonna sand mine down and rhino liner it. Use it and repeat if necessary!
