Outline white letter tires

When did they come? Just wondering are they "period correct" for a mid-late 80's truck? I remember the white letters from my teen years but outline style I do not remeber.

It's a personal choice. You'll a full gambit of answers on this subject, similar to pineapple on pizza. I have gone both ways with the letters out on newer stuff, but the newest I consider it on is my '91 Cherokee. Right now the letters are in on my '81, but have been out with a different set of tires on it. You'll like those HTS60 tires.

My Monte Carlo new had outlined Goodyear Eagle GTs from the factory in 1984. I'm running outlined white letters on mine. Think they look plenty period correct.

Sorry I was not specific enough. I meant did we have outline white letter "OWL" tires like the Grabbers in the picture during the 80's? Or were all white lettr tires during the 80's with full white letters "RWL" like Cooper Cobras?

I remember selling OWL tires in the mid nineties when I was in high school, they didn't seem to be anything "different" or "New" at the time.

I'm not sure if this is from a brochure or a magazine article but the other images led me to believe it was an advertising pamphlet for 1988 Blazer from Chevrolet... OWL

Googled a little. From Coker tire site:

It is the Mack truck bulldog.
The PO had installed it and he has been a favorite point of the truck.
Max used to work at an auto parts store where patrons would often try to buy it.

Love it! The Legendary Mack bulldog. the local wrecking yard I worked at and go to has a cab over mack truck there still driving around and has one of these on it from factory.

My '80 came with Goodyear LR60-15 "GT Radial" tires, which were a raised white outline.
