I have a factory oil cooler on my '86 K5. The problem I have is the adapter is so tall that the oil filter is touching my header. Is there an aftermarket adapter that I can put in place that is shorter? The stock one is a solid 3-4" tall. Otherwise I'm just going to pull it off and put on a regular bypass adapter.

The oil filter is too big? If I'm not mistaken a 305 oil filter is the right fit. This is a common thing, I have the same issue in my SS and that was my solution. I wouldn't rid myself of an oil cooler for anybody!

As a matter of fact, if you take yours off, can I have it?

DIBS!

If it comes off and is in decent shape, it's getting sold. I'll let you know if that's where I end up.

The shorter small block filter is the fix you're after... :werd07:
But OK!

I did look into that, but it already had the shorter filter on it and I still couldn't get the filter off. For now I put on a standard filter adapter and pulled the oil cooler lines. I left everything so that I can put it all back on in the matter of a few minutes. It may just be the headers that I have (don't know what they are, they came on the blazer) run a little different than normal.

Oh.
Dude why is there no pics?

This sounds like REALLY bad news.

I've been so busy taking pictures of my engine bay during the head gasket process that I didn't take any of this issue before I tore everything down.:sorry: I'll take some follow up pics and measurements sometime over thanksgiving. I put the new adapter and the header back on last night.
