i have one im going to be selling soon so id like to know this as well.

without looking into price at all i assumed i would put it up for $700.

I am thinking about putting one in my 78, around here they are usually in the $700-$750 range.

I am confused about transfer cases though, I thought that all 4500's with transfer cases had the front driveshaft output on the wrong side for a square, and that you have to swap transfer cases with a earlier case. I was reading something the other day, and it sounded like there were a few that had the transfer case output on the proper side for a square. Did I read that wrong, or are there some factory combinations that will work in a square?

I have a spare 205 transfer case but it isn't a 32 spline, so I am thinking I will need an adapter, and a new input shaft if I go that route.

While I can't really help you on the transfer case issue, $700 is reasonable if it's in good shape. I would ask what fluid they ran in it. If they say anything besides the GM factory stuff (Syntorq, NOT synchromesh), RUN as fast as you can! It probably has smoked syncros. The only other acceptable fluid is Amsoil MTG (and I still have my doubts about it). NV4500s are super picky about their fluid due to the fiber lined syncros.

For what it's worth, I paid $1900 + $500 core (didn't have one) for a rebuilt NV4500.

it is but he wont sell me just the transmission.

Around here $750 ish is good for the 94-up, 92-93 pull closer to $1000. You can run a F*rd front high pinion Dana 60 and the driver side t-case output wont matter. Otherwise you'll have to install an adapter to run an NP205 (which is the only t-case I would bother adapting to it, and adapters are available).

On the note the transfer cases. I may very well be wrong but I think I read somewhere that GM offered the NV4500 in a one ton truck 90s-era I believe? Which came with a np205.

Just look on the local CL cheapest one I found is a "near new rebuild" GM and is listed for $1450

It seems there are several negatives to the F*rd D60s (imagine that lol). I want to do an NV4500 in dad's old square but want to adapt the NP205 to it instead of going for the F*rd parts. Also the 92-93 has the "mule gear" 1st gear just like the SM465 but has I think 0.78:1 overdrive.

Yeah, I figured that there were probably plenty of negatives, since I haven't seen it mentioned in any of the swap threads I have looked at. I don't really want the low gear, mainly the overdrive. Every time I drive my square, I am looking for another gear (my daily and my stroke both have 5 speeds).

Found a 95 2500 on Craigslist for parts, thinking of giving them a call and seeing what they want for it.

I have no intention of crawling and if its going to break, the 208 I have for the truck I am sure the D44 would probably go first.
