Hello everyone and thank you for the great forum and all the info...

I have a 86 K10 with a 408ls, 3:73's and a SM465 which I'd like to swap, I love driving this truck but a few more MPG would sure be nice.

From what I've found for info here I'm looking for an GM NV pre 1994 since I'm running 3:73's? Truck is lifted on 33's

What gear ratio are most people running with this setup?

If I strike out locating one I'll probable just buy the kit from AA

Thoughts?

Thx

Since you’d have o/d I’d make it strong and peppy with 4.56’s.

Why a pre 94?
Looks like you have some lift on it.

You want the 95 and newer models. They have a 5.61 1st gear and a 3.04 2nd gear. Earlier versions had 6.34 1st and 3.44 2nd.
I have a 4500 in my 2wd Burb turbo diesel with 3.73 gears and 265/75r16 tires. I don't even use 1st gear unless I'm pulling a trailer.
I'd thing a 410 ratio would be good for your combo.

I have both early and 95+ and have run them both with 4:10 & 4:56. By FAR, the best combo is the newer 5.61 and 4:56 gears. I have stock 31 inch tires and with the OD even those keep the engine rpm pretty low at cruise (65-70 mph). With the brick like aerodynamic drag these trucks have, it's working the ol 350 pretty good. In fact, probably get better mpg by raising the rpm a bit. Nice looking truck BTW!
