hey yall. Recently bought an old unit for my K5.
My shifter is all mucked up. Took it off, cleaned & lubed it but its still mucked.
Doesn't move side to side, only forward and aft.
Any hints on what I may be missing?
Used ones are sky high, rather fix the one I have...
As always, thanks in advance!

Is the shifter you have for a np 833? They are a one and only 1 shifter.

Mine are both very similar to an old Hurst shifter. Is yours just rusted and seized?

It's not rusted or sized. The shift lever moves front to back, but not sided to side. Feels jammed, sideways motion wise.
The 3 "fingers" that move the rods all move freely.
I'll take it down to "parade rest" and see whats what.

The want $425+ for them on flea bay.

Did some further research. The mounting brackets are unique to these trannys. The actual shifter is a standard ol' hurst Competion plus shifter. Now, the "fingers" that the shift rods connect to are also unique to these trannys.
A skilled mech can whip up some custom rods if need be, say using some threaded rod and him joints.
Best news of all is a standard Hurst competition master rebuild kit works for them.
Hurst made manny different "gates" depending on what model vehicle the were going in. Also, the arms that mount to the tranny shifters are available with different hole spacing. This allows for shorter shifter travel during shifting.
