Not a square body....

Alright guys. So the guy that was supposed to sell me a square body sold it on me. So now I'm looking elsewhere. Very hard to find a square body in decent shape for my price range. So I found an 88 Scottsdale. This is the only forum I can ask, and I'm sorry. But I figured you guys would help me out. It needs a front diff. I want to know if this, (pictures included) would fit in there. Also, would it be easier just to put a Dana 44 and leaf springs on it? Please let me know. In desperate need of some help.

What is that out of?

You can use any front diff from a 1988-95 K truck, just make sure the ratios match.

The gear ratio is the same at 3.42. So I should be good theoretically speaking?

Yep, that looks like a half of a differential for an 88 GMT400 model K series truck.

Yes, you can convert your GMT400 to SAS Dana 44, 60 or 10 bolt, but most guys who do it use a Ferd front axle since it's Left side drop like the GMT400 is. OR, you can swap transfer cases from a Square and use a Squarebody axle. The nice thing about this upgrade, is you end up with about 4 inches of lift built IIRC. Maybe even 6 inches. I don't remember for certain now. Then all you have to do is level of the rear either by lift spring or blocks, or combo thereof both spring and block.

:laughing1: yeah I know this. I give the GMT400/800 guys around here locally hell about not having a SAS. I usually call it a half a differential with a CV axle crammed in the side of it.

I'd like to say that a solid axle swap would be easier, but it probably isn't just because there's so many other things that go along with it, like parts availability in your area and the need for bigger tires, lift the rear, new steering, new brake hoses, etc.

I'd still probably choose the SAS though.
