Just joined, and in due time!

I am from NE Oklahoma lived here most of all my life (all i can remember anyhow) but I have got a hand me down 1982 K10 Scottsdale Long Bed with the 305 and ESC.

I own my own business, sadly i work out of the Generic Chevy (06 Sierra) but the baby getting restored is my dad's old 4x4.

This is my first truck, and I am so blessed to still have it, I know the history of her, 128K miles, body is straight but showing the neglect she's had since i quit driving her in highschool (circa 1995)

I know what this truck has pulled out of the mud, what its been through and only stuck 3 times (only once was me)

When its done its going to be something between a restore with some classy customizations, but mostly make her look how she arrived here to our home in September of 1982 with only 400 miles on the odometer (or less she was born in St Louis delivered to Casseville Mo and ended up in a small ks dealership)

i will probably be bumping old old posts, asking repetitive questions so please bear with me.

I have a little rust to knock off, interior electrical to fix, new coat of paint (metallic mahogany) interior to recover and hubs to repack (and yes I'm keeping the orig. auto lockers)

yes those are chrome auto vent shades Dad installed decades ago, the wheels are stock 15's and the pinstripe came from the dealer like that. The sliding back glass wasn't stock, i have the original in a shed here along with the original AM/FM push button radio, somewhere i'm still searching the sheds for it.

I have all the side trim pieces still even though they are a bit worse for wear

Welcome Cliff. Not a bad looking start at all. I assume you know when the Wee O Five has had enough, be prepared to step up at least to a 350.

The Wee ohh five has a lot of torque... actually if i had to replace the motor i'd go 400 SB, should fit nice and its a good proven motor.

Even though i wouldn't be a purist they i think stopped offering the 400 by 82.... I'm not sure how it ended up with a 305 it was supposed to be a 350 but the dealer went and found this truck.

By 82, the Wee O Fives were more common in the trucks. That was done due to Federal Restrictions where the manufactures entire fleet had to meet certain mpg and emmision guidelines. To do that most of the motors in the half tons were Wee O Fives. IIRC, 81 was the first year for ESC and 4bbl 305 being the most common as the LE9 RPO code for the fuel/emission efficient motor to keep GM under the federal restrictive requirements along with lock up convreter in the Autos. Then by 82 the 700r4 OD Auto transmission started being phased in and by 84, most were 700r4.

I belive the 79 SWB dad had was a 305 also, i do in a closet somewhere have a brand new set of lifters for a 305.

The only thing that stops me from yanking out the engine is its in excellent condition, uses no oil and purrs like a kitten still.

Speaking of upgrading the "Wee-ohh-five" did the 400 small blocks all dissapear or what, they were an option up till 81 i know that but doing some google searching i'm not seeing many. Looks like the 350 is king these days.

I don't want the hassle of going to the big block that requires more adapting and stuff like that

Has anyone gone really crazy and ordered one of these 358's? http://www.roushyatesparts.com/used-chevy-sb2-racing-engine-p/gmu-125.htm
