hi i just got a 1987 gmc r1500 with the 350 motor and 700r4 trans. i am building the motor and trans to put out about 500hp and be a daily driver still. some people have told me i need to put in a different rear end with 4.10's or 4.11's. but i need a performance rear end with c clip delete not a regular one with a gear swap. i have no idea about any of that. i know motor and trans. so if anyone could possibly help i would greatly appreciate it. i still want to be able to get on the highway and take some road trips if that makes a difference.

thanks in advance.

Build you one from a 9 inch ford. Put a nice auburn limited slip posi etc. May even use a 12 bolt gm.

Why would you need a c clip eliminator? Replace the carrier with a quality locker, and gear it properly with good quality gears, and you shouldn't have avg issues.

i dont know anything about different gears and c clip stuff. i know its pretty simple for someone who deals with it more often. could i "" build"" the rear end that is currently in it to hold up? which way would be cheaper. i only have a $5,000 to spend on it for now. i have $1500 set aside for the motor. which only leaves me $3500 for the rear end, wheels, tires, and a new wiring harness.

How are you getting 500 hp for around $1500?

i had it wrong. i forgot to budget heads. but i had figured with cam, intake, carb, headers on the 454 i could be close if not at 500hp. if not then there is always nitrous. ha.

With a $5000 budget, a strong reliable truck is a pipe dream.
