Hello Everyone.

I have a 1976 C10 Cheyenne. Previous (original) owner had a heavy duty leaf pack (8/1) on the truck when I purchased it. I would like to lower it using a flip kit which I already purchased. The 8/1 pack will be a rough ride so I purchased new stock leafs springs 3/1. However, when I tried installing the new springs I am a bit short. I ordered the correct springs for a 76 1/2 ton C10. The heavy duty springs are 26/30, which I thought just made the arch higher, therefore raising the ass end of the truck up. I purchased 26/26 leaf springs thinking I would be converting back to stock, but without the high arch.

I am new to all of this and I'd like to know where I goofed up, or what I can do to make it work. The hangers (?) on at the rear of the frame have factory rivets, so I don't believe anything was altered when the previous owner installed the heavy duty pack.

Thanks again for your time,

Rudy

If they are the heavy duty springs they are 56” I believe. Non hd springs are 52”. I could be wrong on those numbers though

I’m fairly certain that’s where your problem lies

Yes, the HD springs are 56. So does that mean the truck chassis came from the factory outfitted for 56 springs and not the standards 52?

I'm guessing it's a long bed due to the 56" OEM springs. You can drill out your rivets for the rear spring mount and move it forward to the holes I marked. They should be 4" forward.

@Craig 85,

Craig, what happens to the drive shaft length when you relocate the hanger? If the shaft that is in there now is for the longer spring pack would he have to get the shaft shortened because of the center pin will move in the shorter pack?

The axle is in the same place. The center pin of the 56" spring pack isn't in the center. It is offset. (26"/30")

You just have to make sure that the short part goes forward.

The 52" springs have the center pin in the center (26"/26")
