Hi, I created as account here quite awhile ago but kinda forgot about it. So here I am now.
I'm currently 19 and at college in Montana Tech. I own an 81 gmc c2500 sierra classic with the trailer special. It was my grandfather's truck before and I've had it since I got my license.
Truck has a 454, th400, and a 14 bolt with 3.73 gears. We blew the original engine on the way to my college the first day. A nut had backed off the connecting rod bolt then piston met valve shattering the piston and then the connecting rods punched a nice big crack into the water jacket. That was a rough day.
Last winter we built a new engine up. I got a hold of a 289 (I believe) 454 block and I started buying parts. As the motor is now it's a .030 overbore, stock cast crank, stock truck style rods with arp bolts, arp main bolts, flattop forged pistons, 3904390 closed chamber heads (they used these on some 427 vettes) with hardened seats and stock sized valves. For a cam I have a summit 218/228 @ .050 with .501/.502 lift, comp roller tip 1.72 rockers, and one piece pushrods. Compression is about 9.0-9.25. Using a port matched performer 2.0 intake and 1.75 headers trough dual 2.5 exhaust with an h pipe and summit turbo mufflers. Still running an 800 cfm qjet (I'm quite fond of these, can just about dissemble and reassemble with my eyes closed). All engine details are from memory so some things may be a touch off.
Recently I bought an 8ft stepside bed and we intend to swap it on over my christmas break. This truck has been a project for me and my dad and we've had a great time with it. I intend to keep this truck throughout my life and keep building it. I intend to make it a street performance machine but having it look fairly stock overall.
