Finally found the right truck for me.

If you could do anything... Considering the truck already runs ok, the 4x4 checks out okay, the dashboard gages all work well etc What would be your order of priorities?

  1. Upgrades to engine or any other under the hood upgrades? Like?
  2. Focus on external or internal cosmetics? Dashboard, Seating, etc?
  3. Exhaust?
  4. Shocks? They do look very rusty...

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure where to start (I'm not a mechanic or mechanically savvy - I have some cash to pay a mechanic for engine upgrades) I'd just like to add my own thoughts and features to the truck.

I just love these trucks and excited to finally have one.

Welcome.
First thing I'd do is make sure everything is mechanically sound. Seems like you've done that somewhat, but I'd check the brakes and shocks. Make sure it all works good. If you want to do any upgrades that's a personal opinion of if you want it to look better or run better. If you go for more power you gotta plan ahead for transmission and driveline upgrades that the increased power might break.

Interior and exterior is another personal choice. Would you rather fix the inside first since that's what you see when you're driving it or would you rather have the outside look good that everyone else sees.

Good luck, start a build thread so we can keep track of what you're doing.

Thanks GTME94 - I would have never considered the increased power impact to other components of the truck. Do able? yes... But way more money. You gave me some really good advice - first stop ... mechanic to check out everything mechanically and start checking off the list of needed items!

Thanks!

When I get started I start a thread to show before and after.

Welcome! Sweet truck.

I'd probably check out the shocks, brakes, and steering components first. These trucks drive so much better with some new parts underneath.

Engine power increases may not break parts further down depending on which transmission you have.

One thing I thought of is window and door seals. Depending on how bad yours are and how much highway driving you do, replacing those can make it a lot quieter inside the cab.

Welcome to the forum Zack. I grew up with a "BUNCH" of Palmers in the heighborhood. LOL

First good upgrade would be a "BOOK" if You do`nt already have one, read the book, pack front wheel bearings, check the brakes, front and rear, replace parts as necessary to keep in the oils and greases in and keep those front wheels a spinning freely. Check those front axles U-Joints so You know that they are in good condition. Drive shafts to rear and front differentials, grease those slip yokes and U-Joints, along with the front ball joints, tie rod ends and drag link too.
Change all fluids, including differentials, T-case, trans fluid and filter and engine too, start a record book of everything You do, keep all receipts in a file. Change the prestone too and check over the cooling system.
Make it a fresh start in Your ownership by doing those maintenance items.
That way, if You wpuld decide to go four weeeling and get in a bind, You know that the possibility of having something break would be a rare instance.
Do the work Yourself, save that money that would be spent on getting the maintenance done for other "real upgrades", like the engine and drive train.
Thats all.

I may be wrong, but isn't that a pic of a K10?

Anywho, nice looking truck. Back in the day a buddy of mine had a truck just like it.
