NEED ADVICE for a 350 transmission rebuild kit

I have a TH 350 4 x 4 transmission I would like to rebuild and there are so many kits out there I just cannot decide which one to get. I use this truck for heavy pulling and loads to gather my yearly firewood. I also would like to rebuild the NP 208 transfer case while I am at it.

What rebuild kits do you guys recommend?

1982 GMC Frame. 350 engine and TM 350 transmission

Welcome, depending on how heavy the load you might be better off switching to a th400.

Depending on the rear gear ratio in the truck a Th350 is very capable of tolerating pulling some weight. Being a 4x4, it can be pricey to convert to Th400.

Kit all depends on what all you want to done to it and how bad it is. Rusty Nail bought a real nice kit for his and replaced everything, steels, all bushing, thrust washers, clutches, band, seals, vac modulator on and on. What considered a freshen up kit is usually called a banner kit. Comes with clutches, seals, gaskets and sealing rings. Sometimes you can get a kit with just common bushings, thrust washers are usually good, but never say never, Rusty had a bad one cuz whoever built his before did a ****** job and had the end play to tight IMO and it caused **** to eat itself up. Of course his had several major failures in it. A few broken valve body springs, burnt and welded low and reverse clutches, the direct drum and thrust washer ate each other up etc.

Get a quality rebuild kit. No need for fancy racing clutches. Look for a name brand friction (borg Warner, Raybestous, alto) machine the direct piston to fit 5 clutches in place of the factory 4, install 4 bushings innthe sun shell, make sure you drill the lube holes for the extra bushings. Use a wide direct drum bushing, either install a shift kit or internally dual feed the direct clutches. Using a 700 low/reverse roller clutch isn’t a bad idea, the rollers are bigger in the 700 part than the 350. Set up the valve body for a firm shift, use a quality fluid with a good trans cooler, and your good to go. The 350 is pretty durable when they are built right.
