I like that first one best. And the price is much better too.

Looking at the prices of these big tires, I just might end up using those 36x14.50's I got. Do you think those would work with a 4in lift? I'd go no more than 2in body lift if I had to.

You would need to trim to clear them, or do a body lift. Even with a 2" BL, you may still have to do a very minor amount of trimming depending on the wheel size you choose.

A buddy of mine has the swamper tsl radials and likes them and they seem to wear good. His are 35s though. 2 things to remember about >35" tires:
1) hard to balance
2) sidewall flex, especially with a radial
The burb has some ass to it so going around a curve could give you a lot of sidewall flex (or even lay-over). Powersliding a 6000# rig on blacktop is scary. If you're in no rush you may want to keep an eye on this page, they change weekly sometimes...

yeah, the more I think about it, hell no. All my sheet metal is good. I'm not tearing up my metal to save a few bucks in tires. The K1500, I want those 33x10.50x15 with the 4.10's lockers 10 bolts and 700r4/NP208 for the light duty 4x4 anyway and no lift.

The K10 I"ll go with the 14FF 8 lug 4.56 Detroit Locker CUCV carrier and Th350 or Th400 if I acquire this one I have my on with NP205 and 35's on the 4in lift I have.

So is this just the 35's or anything bigger than 35? How about on a 16 or 17in Rim? I'm thinking of going with late model 17in 8 lug OEM wheels and 35in tires on the K10. I prefer to stay with a 12.50 width.

A larger diameter wheel would = less flex but hell I hauled just about 500# of scrap to the yard in mine when it had 4" lift/33s and damn near lost it in a 35 mph curve because of sidewall flex. Just something to be aware of.
EDIT they were 33x12.5x15 Bridgestone Dueler M/Ts not sure that matters compared to the wider tires Andy is looking at.

That sux. 500 lbs isn't that much. That's only 2 big guys. Me and my bro together weigh over 500lbs.

Well I wasnt hauling it in the cab with me remember lol it was in the back over the rear axle. It was one of those situations I should have been going a little slower than the posted speed limit anyways. Just figuring the burb may act like a completely different animal on tall tires with thin radial sidewalls.

wow my old man hauled 2000 lbs. of shingles to the dump in his old ford that had 35's on 10 inch wheels. They were 14 or 15 inches wide on the tire part and he said he didn't have a problem, just felt like it was walking, had to stay under 30 mph. I'm guessing that's the so called sidewall flex.

good point you brought up Curt cuz I never thought of it. I guess big wheels aint soo bad then.

That's why I want to stay away from a 15" rim. The 16" sizes tend to have a much higher load rating and more sidewall plys. For example, just compare the Nitto you selected and the Nitto I selected. My current 33's are a load range "E" on a relatively narrow 8 inch wide rim and they have a very stable ride in all conditions. High speeds, cornering, braking, towing, etc. A comparable 33/12.5/15 would not have the same performance.

Also, running a wider rim will help support the sidewall of a taller tire.

I'm really starting to lean towards the Nitto tire, for reasons other than cost. Right now the Burb does great in snow, but with a wider tire the snow performance will not be as good. The Nitto tire has a little more aggressive tread pattern to help make up the difference. The MTZ looks a little better for the street use, but the tread pattern is very very similar to the tires I currently run.

And I was even thinking about going with 15 inch rims on my 8 lug to be able to get cheaper tires and more selection. Seems I"m on target to run 33's on my K1500 with the 4.10's in the 10 bolt 6 luggers. But for the K10, now I'm even leaning more toward the 17 inch later model Alloy OEM GM rims cuz I want to run at least 35's on it with the 4inch lift. Unless there isn't much of a cost difference, I don't see going to 37's and I'd never run anything bigger than that. I"m hoping to swap the CUCV carrier with 4.56 and Detroit Locker into a 14b FF axle housing, and an LSD carrier in a 10 bolt front with 4.56's and hope to hell it'll hold up and another reason why I'd think I'll stay at 35's on 17 in rims. That's a long way off. We'll see. I Might be doing that to a Burb instead by the time the time gets here.

I've still had this same plan in my head and it's been close to two years. I'm committed now, just spent a lot of money on new wheels/tires and a set of cutout flares. I ended up going with the 36x15.5x16 MTZ's and 16x12 MT Classic III's.

So the majority of the rust will be lost when the cutout flares are installed. Rear wheel wells will be fabbed/replaced, rear doors, tailgate and lower quarters will be replaced. Then no more rusty Suburban.

3.73 gears will be staying, I will be losing OD. Rebuilt th400 will be going in along with another 208 t-case. Tired, smoking, missing, overheating TBI 350 (as of today it barely runs) will be replaced with a somewhat overhauled TBI 454.

I think that's about it. As of right now, tear down date is yet to be determined, depends on how long it takes to thaw out around here I guess. If it's soon, I'll be getting started. If folks are interested in seeing, I'll try to remember to take pics as I go.

And which vehicle is this plan for??? This thread is old and dated now. I don't member what we're talking about.

My black '88 Burb that I've had for what seems like forever. It was an all original K10 when I got it, then lifted it and went K20. The first page of this thread has a pic.

And it's old, but not dated, lol. I dug it up to see how far off my plan is from then because I couldn't remember. Turns out the plan is still the same, surprisingly. Same truck, same plan.
