mark 4 454 engine oil cooler lines

I have a auxillary oil cooler on the 76 454 and need to replace the lines that go from the oil filter adapter to the cooler. After a pretty good search it seems that no one makes a repop so I guess I have to make my own. Any suggestions on fittings / hose type to use? Should I get AN fittings and braided hose or something like the HAYDEN 293 and attach rubber line to it? Thanks for the advice yall.

My local Napa store makes lines for me, I’ve had several different styles of oil & hydraulic lines made there.

Check the hose fittings, I thought all of the earlier models had screw together fittings so you only need to source the hose itself and reuse your fittings.

I’m pretty sure they were the hydraulic style but I will check. There’s a chance the fitting could be long gone. Do y’all know the approximate length of the lines if I just get some new ones made?

I used a kit from kbdieselperformance on my '93 6.5TD, not sure if the kit KB-8.1L-EOCL will work on a 454.

Thanks man I will check that out. What do y’all think of making a AN fitting to adapt to it? seems pretty simple just looking into it.

AN stuff is great but it might be an expensive option, I would only go this route if you’re planning to keep the truck long term.

On your currant hoses, where the metal meets the rubber is the metal crimped or a hex fitting?

Even if they are crimped you can cut the crimp off peel it away and reuse the fittings with clamps. I've always used braided blue power steering hose and AN fittings when I make oil lines,but you can reuse old ends new hose and good clamps. What ever makes you happy. The blue power steering hose is oil resistant,heat resistant,pressure rating is unreal,it doesn't fray and get sharp edges like stainless and its cheaper and east to work with.

Thanks for the advice fellas. nvrenuf, ill probably keep this vehicle forever so I might as well. Ricko, I like that idea of using the power steering hose with the an fittings. thinking 1/2 inch or -8 AN sounds close to the original size hose/fitting.

and think I will give it a try. Now I just need to find the correct thread pitch for the adapters/fittings to mate with the stock connections on the oil filter adapter and cooler.
