Wasn't sure where exactly to ask this but is anyone been successful adapting a manual spring starter to a square?

Love the idea. I understand mounting and access could be difficult but it makes sense for a backup. I know bump start might be mentioned but being by yourself its hard to push a burb, especially on/in terra not-so-firma.

What about an air starter? Check the adapter at 34 seconds:

@bucket I think he's talking old lawn more style wind the crank handle which winds the spring when you release the Springfield turns the motor over. Too much work just put an extra pulley on the balancer, wrap a pull rope around it, stand on the fender and let her rip.

not used/seen one on a 'truck'.
had one on a lawn mower when i was a kid.

instead of a recoiling rope pull, you wound a lever around and around where the rope would have been.
when the mechanism 'clicked' you had it wound all the way like a watch.

then you pressed the release catch and the spring 'cranked' the motor.

You could still use muscle to start with the air starter. Small air tank, hand or foot pump and a ball valve. Fill the tank by hand and go.

Looks like you found your spring starter. Need to make the adapter for the GM engine?

I get your point. Not looking at air starters.

Finding the spring starter isnt too hard. There's a few makers I've seen already. I was asking if anybody has adapted one to a square. I know its a long shot but it could save me some of the legwork is all.

Even considered adapting a Coffman kind of setup for back up purposes.

I am liking that spring starter more than the air starter.
Add a hole in the fender, more length to the crank handle and a cable to the release. Crank it, hop in the cab, pull the cable release and go.

Did you contact the manufacture(s) to see if they offered a mount for the GM engine?
