That's a sharp looking bike, for a BMW! Lol I bet I could wheelie that thing for miles. I kind of miss my crazy motorcycle days. Sold my last sport bike a few years back, was an '01 CBR929RR with a bunch of goodies on it, it was ridiculously fast if my little ass could keep the front tire down! I always said I was going to find a good 954RR just to have and tinker around with someday, I just really liked those bikes!

BMW makes incredible liter sport bikes now—stuff that has been race proven against the Japanese and Italian liter bikes.

My favorite Honda from the era you’re talking about was the RC51. It gave the Ducati twins a run for their money until the Desmosedici bikes. The Desmo was making well over 200 hp. Now that’s what liter bikes make—more than a half horsepower per pound!

Back then a guy down the street had an RC51 and it was wicked. Which is funny you mention it because I had its dirty little cousin at one point, the 996 Super Hawk! It was a hand me down from my cousin who used it to stuntride on for a couple years until he got bored with it and went to a CBR. It had D&D slip ons, was geared extra low (don't remember the sprocket sets now) a custom cage, and leopard print fur! I mean because, why not. Lol That thing would literally wheelie for miles. That big heavy bike liked to eat fork seals though. But that big V-twin had a very manageable power band and with a slight slip of the clutch and a quick chop of the throttle it was straight up and very predictable in doing so. The only experience I had with any Ducati's was in the later 2000's with a buddy that had a 1098 and then followed it up with the 1198. I never did ride his 1198 but the 1098 when I did was almost a buttery smooth ride!
