I am not sure where to put this nor am I sure if this an allowed posting on here, so please make me aware of that if I am incorrect. I have been a forum reader for a while but have just made an account so bear with me.

Here is what I know: 1974 Chevrolet C20

Sold sometime between 1988-1990 from the Tallmadge, Ohio area to the Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Area.

When sold, it was a

*Single cab, painted orange

*Long bed, but with a wood bed built by my Dad

*Had a 292 straight six paired to a 3 on the tree manual transmission

As of right now, I do not have pictures or a VIN. If I get them I will post to help out.

Big thanks in advance to anyone with info as I am well aware it could be long gone by this point.

Howdy!

If you can manage to find the VIN, it will help out a bunch. You can go to the Ohio BMV website and do a title search. It's quick and free, it will give dates and locations of when there were title changes and sometimes dates of when it was registered too. As long as it happened in Ohio, it will be there after they started going electronic around '92.

Be sure to hang out and check in often. Update with as much as possible. I'd sure like to this transpire and happen.

Having the VIN would be your best bet at tracking the truck down.

I hope you find it, but don't be surprised to discover that it no longer exists. A 45 year old truck that spent its whole life in Ohio, there's a good chance it rusted to oblivion and was scrapped. Someone could have taken care of it or even restored it, but being a 6cyl and a longbed, especially one that already had a wooden bed (I'm assuming due to rust in the first place) it's not a highly sought after model that was likely to have been restored/resurrected over the years. Totally possible and I hope you do find it, but the odds are certainly not in your favor. No offense, just trying to be real with you.

Best of luck, let us know what happens!

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcomes haha. I was finally told I could get the vin from my Insurance company so I did. Only problem is the truck's a 74 and it was sold before the BMV went electronic. It's a twelve digit vin that no one online has any records of and my friends that work in dealerships couldn't find anything either. I did find a VIN chart that verified the options I was told the truck had so I know it's the correct VIN at least. I don't think it's an issue to post the vin here if anyone knows anything else to try, but let me know before I do.

Also, I found this on the BMV website but it appears I need some sort of business account to request these "abstracts"

What was the last known condition of the truck? You live in and the truck was sold back to an area that has has a high mortality rate for vehicles.

Wondering if auto recyclers are required to turn in vehicle vins they have dismantled/scrapped?
Maybe something to look into during your bmv searches.

They are required, yes. When I looked up my dad's '79 Caprice a while back, it said it was junked in '98.

Although being required to turn in a title when hauled in to the shredder, there are some that make it in without paperwork.

How'd you get the lookup on the Caprice? Any service out there or through the BMV/DMV?

Though it doesn't match it exactly, there's a chance it may be my truck (I suspect that it might have spent time in Ohio).

It's a '74 half ton with a 250 (not 292) 3 on the tree, and a homemade wooden stock rack.
(This is what it looks like now, 2 years after I bought it).

Also its Ochre, which some may call orange.
