Looking for some 1973-1974 GMC tailgate lettering that goes on the upper left hand, or drivers side of the tailgate. Really just need the letter "C" but I would buy a whole set if needed. I'm looking for driver quality, my pickup is not a show truck! Anyone know where to find any? Thanks

Man, my truck ain't no gem and I'm sure not talking down to you, but dude at least sand that thing down and shoot it woth some rust reformer and Rustoleum before that surface pitting turns to actual rot. That's the only reason my truck still exists. I bought it naked and sunburned in the desert in Colorado, and after a year or so in New England I knew I had to do something if I didn't want the thing to turn to dust in a few years

Dalon, The tailgate you pictured has embossed letters in the metal gate. They would have been painted white on a dark painted gate. On a white or light color painted gate they would be painted a darker contrasting color.

The added letters on that gate could be found on a 1973 and 1974 Jimmy or Suburban tailgate.

I have a different tailgate, this one was roached and bent beyond repair. I'm just missing that letter "C". I've been able to find another G and M, but no C, weird!

For some reason I think only the M is offered by LMC in the grille, not the other letters.

WTF ?

I know you need tail gate letters but just pointing out the weirdness of it all when it comes to finding "Professional Grade" badges and such.

BTW, @1980K10 - how does yours run ? Goldie is a slug - 3.42's & 33's are not a winning combo. :driver:

On the early tailgates (at least up to ‘75) the GMC is centered on the tailgate , not offset to one side like in later trucks.

The original tailgate on my ‘75 has the GMC letters embossed in the recessed center section, centered both from top to bottom and left to right. Mine has Silverado trim, so over that center section was a relatively small aluminum panel with bright GMC letters on it. It is much smaller than the newer aluminum trim panels, and it fits flush into the recess in the tailgate.

Runs like a dream, doesn't have a lot of power, but I don't haul anything heavy or do much with it anymore. Just want it to look like a nice driver.

My '80 has the smaller trim in the middle with Chevrolet, looks sharp. I was just trying to stay original if I could. I know it's a long shot, but I'm doing the pickup with my 14 year old son, he is going to drive the '73 to school next year. Teaching him how to take care of vehicles, maintain, and fix stuff on the fly!

I think the first early years of GMC had a lot of snazzy one off trim badging for the highest trims or special editions etc. The fad died off prob 75, 76

Saw this on my drive home, It's in Palo Cedro CA. 1973 GMC SIERRA 25 Hundred. Looks pretty sound some rust rot on the door and hood, but it has a spare hood in the bed.
