I have a 78 c10 and I have been tossing around the idea of lifting it 3 or 4 inches

has anyone done it looking for ideas on how to do it

I just use the truck for dump runs and as a beater to haul stuff

I don't need it to perform off road just want to fit 33'' tires and not loose to much ride quality or drivability. without spending a small fortune on the truck

the rear is easy blocks or a shackle flip just not sure on the front

I have had a couple quick thoughts

reverse z the frame lift instead of drop (not sure I like this idea)

space the whole front cross member down 3 or 4 inches then figure out the steering (not sure on this either)

I can't find a lift spindal for the truck I thought someone makes them but have not found them

after a little more research I think a body lift will be the easiest way for me to go to keep my ride quality and drivability

I had a 3" body lift on a '79 Dodge D-100 and on an early 80's Olds Cutlass.

There used to be a couple 2wd lifts available but they have been long discontinued I think.

I had a '79 2wd K5 with a set of 32x11.5's that cleared great. I don't think you would need much lift for 33's, maybe a set of HD 3/4 ton coils would do the trick. Lift spindles for the GMT 400 might still be available, maybe they could be adapted?

Cute doggo first and foremost, and the problem you will have with tires larger than 31 inches is when the front springs compress it will compress considerably more than a 4wd compresses so the wheel well is going to eat your tire much more easily. That being said you could swap c20/30 springs but it's going to ride like a c20/30. If given any option I would probably call a spring company and ask them for a progressive lift spring so that you do not lose a lot of ride quality and you might get 2 inches from that but still combine it with a body lift if you want more.

I'd just use the stiffest front springs you can find. Maybe Moog #5464 springs would give you enough room for 33" tires. They are specified by Moog for C20 and C30. $65 + shipping at Rock Auto.

As mentioned above, the ride will be stiff, but I'd suspect they would give you 2"-3" more clearance when compressed by your 1/2 ton truck.
