Kick panel vents

Anyone know whats wrong with this kick panel vent? The plastic pull rod is slightly bent up to where it hooks on to the vent. I only have the one plastic vent rod the other one on other side broke off.....

Could the vent doors themselves be mounted upside down? Looks like the hole for the rod is slanted down too far to attach to the vent correctly....

Looks right to me. This is the one from my 79. I think that is part of the design to have the rod bent slightly to hold the door in place so it doesn't move on its own.

OK cool I thought I had the wrong vents in there......just need to pick up another pull rod from somewhere...
