Its currently sitting under the hood of a 1979 c10, wired up, and ready to fire up.

I kind of knew these responses would come out this way. For the record, nothing anyone could say on the inter webs could get me fired up, so no worries there. This also isn’t directed at any one comment in particular, rather a commentary on the topic.

I’ll preface this by saying, I’m likely more conservative than 99% of the people you know. Trump was too liberal in my opinion. The choice to get the Tesla was not based in environmentalism, or wanting to get rid of fossil fuels. I have two determining factors in most choices: enjoyment and/or financial gain, as long as it means not getting in anyone else’s way.

I find it curious that talking about buying a particular vehicle, one of the most American vehicles mind you, gets this much of a quasi-political response. But again, I sort of expected it.

Yes, my K30 squarebody with 40 gallons on board can go 400-600 miles. No I don’t think the Tesla is as cool as a 67 Camaro or 63 Vette or 69 challenger or a 47 Chevy 3100 or a 64 F100, but that’s not the point. Nor are those cars I’d want to drive 100+ miles a day every day, nor are they anything like the cars the big 3 are making today.

As far as personal objection or opinion on someone buying a particular vehicle, I tend to believe that falls into group think and is anti-conservative...but that’s the narrative when you get caught up in watching too much tv and not applying logic to your view point.

How many charges does your EV need to travel that distance?

That’s pretty incredible that your R30 gets 15mpg.

The particular model I ordered has a 350 mile range. From an almost dead battery to an 85% charge takes about 30 minutes. I’m up and at em at 4:15 every morning. Topping up the charge at a slower rate takes a few hours per night while I sleep. With the solar array I’m getting and the power storage that goes with it (all American made by the way), we will be generating more energy than we’re using and we will be getting paid by the power company. ROI is a whole other matter, however.

I never said anything about politics, I just don't personally like Teslas. Electric cars in general really, but especially not Teslas, I'll be honest I kind of cringe and go "uckkk" under my breath every time I even see one on the road and usually pass it quickly just so I can carry on with my day without it ruining my mood. Once again not directed at you personally but I usually just assume the person behind the wheel is a self righteous ***** because that's typically the type of owner they attract, plus I just can't ******* stand the way they look (or the man who created them lol), and if it were really about driving a well built automobile they wouldn't have such gimmicky crap on them (celebration mode, ludacris speed mode, etc. Pat yourselves on the back some more while you drive around in your glossy bar or soap why don't you. Come on...) I am not trying to say any of this applies to you, that is just my initial reaction to seeing Teslas, just being honest. I have no reason to dislike you personally you've always been fine on here I'm just stating a generalization I (and many other people) feel about these cars. They're very polarizing as I'm sure you're obviously aware.

The only comment I will make to you specifically is that you said "Hah faster than anything you've ever ridden in" and when I mentioned that I actually have been in some insanely fast cars/ bikes you responded with "the only stock street vehicles faster are 200k", I never said anything about stock everyday road cars. I've known dudes with $500 cars plus a couple grand in engine work/ big turbos that can **** on new 'vettes and Lambos. Stock for stock sure Teslas are impressively quick I'll give you that, but most people who are actually into cars (especially going fast in them) usually don't care too much about stock performance.

Yes, it’s up and running. Never had time to settle the dispute with ORD about one of the custom springs being longer than the other. After they sent out a second replacement, it was still an 1/8” off. I’m going to order some Deaver springs and shelf the ORD custom (Alcan) springs. The owner of Deaver guaranteed the precision of their manufacturing, whereas Alcan was not able to. I don’t have the time to keep pulling leaf springs off my truck to give ORD (Alcan) the chance to get it right.

Kind of disappointing for $2000 worth of leaf springs. The Deavers will be another $2k...

Yeah, it had some tolerances off I guess...excess backlash I believe they said. Still haven’t put 100 miles on it since going back together. It’s patiently waiting though. I keep adding to the list, but not getting anything done on it.

I want to make some modifications to my exhaust. After flexing the truck out on a berm pretty good, I heard an exhaust leak when I parked it. I put a new manifold gasket, loosened then retorqued the ball/socket and the ticking went away. I plan on putting a length of that stainless braided stuff that’s OE on all the new vehicles shortly after each collector, some strategically placed v-band clamps to make working on stuff easier and more pliable hangers the full length of the system. I was going to get silly and do all stainless mandrel and may still, but engine masters showed there is no difference between mandrel and crush bends. I also have an air locker waiting to go into the 14ff when I get a chance. I’ll probably re-gear it and the d60 for some 35s at the same time.

We got this a few weeks before the Tesla. The roof is pretty trick. It’s two layers of glass with a gas between them. You push a button and it goes from clear to frosted.
