I'd say $4000 wouldn't be out of line, but I'd be all over that body looking for anything more than a skim coat of filler. "newer" paint, especially white, is often used to hide shoddy body work

Easily 6K in Minnesota. They sell rusted out short beds (rare) for 3K here.

I can vouch for that!! My truck was originally white and the 'body work' on that was epically bad!!

Eh, bad bodywork is bad bodywork. You can hide a lot of crap with black paint too, especially on the lower parts of a body. No matter what the color, you always have to be careful with 'fresh paint', just don't be bashful when it comes to crawling around and looking all over and under the truck.
