Hi Guys,

I am new here on this site, and I am hoping to gain a LOT of knowledge and hopefully find some parts I am looking for (grill, instrument cluster, tail gate)!

I am new to the square body scene, not a stranger to them however. Growing up my dad had a 77 Chevy Suburban/350 (old blue was her name), and a beautiful 78 Chevy Suburban Camper Special/454. I drove them both a lot, and now I miss them!

My new ride for the family is a 1976 GMC crew cab, 1 ton dually, long box. Wanted one for a few years, and I picked up this one out of the blue and it turns out it is a GMC. Has a Chevy grill, and chevy horn button in it, but a Sierra Grande logo on the dash, and the vin states its a GMC.

What I found interesting on this one, are the rims. It has regular style GMC hubcaps front & rear on it, not like a typical dually has.

I look forward to hopefully getting to know some of you on here!

Do you know much of the history of that truck?

Unfortunately no I do not know a lot of history on this truck. The person I purchased it from had bought it from his coworker at the time. His coworker yanked the engine from it (454), and left the 400 trans. I plan to use my Olds Rocket 455 in it.

I wish I did know more history on it, it was made in Baltimore according to the tag.

It appears to have the wrong front hubs is why I was asking.

What should it have? The duals in the rear have regular rims just like the front, big hex spacers, with a massive spacer that goes over the hex's, and a regular rim on the outside too. GMC hubcaps all around.

Yes, that is what I have typically seen. This one seems to be unique in the sense that it is not like the others. However, I cannot find any proof that this was supposed to be anything different. Honestly I like it this way, just because it is different.

Right on, it looks like a nice truck, you’ll have fun with it.

Thanks WFO!

Big Chip, yes this will be a fun truck! I plan to slam it to the ground, and the 455 Olds powerplant will make it thump good with Thumpr cam system in it. It has two bench seats so my entire family (6 of us) will fit to go on cruises with it and go to some car shows.

I plan to leave the hubcaps on it too, I will paint or powdercoat the rims white, shine up the caps and leave it that way. Interior is all ripped out now and being cleaned up, lots of mice stuff in there, but beautiful seats!! Dash stuff.....the pad is junk, and vent stuff needs some work and I need a different cluster.

Nice truck, you've picked the biggest square to start with.

Cool truck!
From what your describing, it does not sound like the dual srw wheels with a big spacer in between is competent for hauling heavy loads.
But unique for sure, never seen one. It'll be perfect for just haulin @ss though!
Front is no big deal, srw wheels fit on most duallies with the hub adapter removed.
Interested to see pics of the rear wheel setup.
