Hello from Kentuckiana,

My name is Tiffany. I inherited my Grandfather's 1983' GMC Sierra Classic 1500 1/2 ton, short box. My Grandfather worked for GM and special ordered my new baby back in 1982. He passed away and I recently inherited my girl.

She was ordered with gray exterior/red interior, dual fuel tanks, lower valance with amber fogs, a/c, antenna in the front windshield, power locks and a 305 w/ the 700R4. I think what makes her unique is the 700R4 which was not released to the public until 85' even though it's not a 350T, or 400T I still think it's pretty neat.

Unfortunately, my kiddo sat for awhile due to my Grandpa not driving her and the motor cracked due to no antifreeze. So in the garage she sits now ready to be loved again. I have great plans for her. I decided to keep her mostly original with a few upgrades.

I'm currently out of town due to work, so I apologize I do not have pics at this time.

I look forward to meeting others and seeing other beauties on the forum. This is my favorite GM model and I'm proud to own one.

Thanks for having me.
-Tiffany

Welcome from Texas, Tiffany.

I have a SPID label taken from a 1983 with the 700r4 I was just looking at so it really wasn't a special order, but rather likely that few dealers knew how to get it. I've comes across a few 1983s down here with the 700r4 in junkyards too.

Can't wait to see the pics though. GMCs are certainly less common than Chevrolets. :waytogo:

What's a SPID label? I see a lot of 700r4' in our trucks now a days. They're the most common to get a hold of, so I'm not surprised. I've been keeping my eye out on a 400T. It would be nice to have one.

What part of Texas are you from? I've always wanted to visit.

http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4366 - Thread on SPID labels. :)

I'm in Austin, live music capitol of the world. :D I grew up on the Ohio/Indiana border though. I love it here though, very, very little snow to deal with; rust free trucks; it's 80* in December.

Every time someone calls your truck a Chevy make sure you correct them and say its a GMC. When they start giving you a ration of nonsense about how they are just badged different make sure you mention GMC trucks were assembled with lock washers and that was the main difference.

Welcome to the forum, neighbor! Are you sure the block is cracked? It may have just popped a freeze plug, wouldn't that be a relief!

welcome to the group. I'm from northern Indiana and have lots of parts. I always likes the looks of the GMC grilles, in fact most of my chevys sport the GMC clone look

You ever gone to buy a brand new Chevy and bring up the GMC has a few better features and the Chevy salesman says, Oh they're made on the same assembly line and sometimes they even get badges mixed up and a truck will come out with GMC tailgate or GMC horn button.... OK, so I call ******** on that. Sure it could happen but it's not going to be seen and corrected before it gets to the dealership.

Well, it's happened to me. On my 85 GMC K1500, I had the cluster out of it, the cluster all tore to a million pieces. Take a look at my speedo. It clearly says Chev on it. Made me wonder what the difference could be.
