Help with Rear Disc Swap

Here's the scoop and question . . .

I have a '73 Jimmy 4x4 with a Corporate 10 bolt. 6-lug rear, drum brakes.

I have a chance to get the backing plate, calipers, rotors and P valve from a 2001 Yukon that has a
(? I don't know) rear (10 bolt) 6-lug, and the master cylinder for $50 bucks.

I don't get the rear axle, just the brake parts.

Will these parts fit a '73 without any mods? Is it a direct bolt on?

Hmmm . . .
Headed to boneyard today and grab the rear disc setup off of a 2006 'Burb.
Hopefully it will bolt onto a '73. If not, it'll be up for sale.

Practical disaster. Got the calipers and rotors ($50) but, was a C-Type rear axle.
No pan so I can't drain the pumpkin. The mount, shield and parking brake had to stay.

Better man then I. I may or may not have pulled a trans pan and used it as a diff drain pan in a junkyard before.

So someone swapped in the 10 bolt rear axle from the 12 bolt that it came with? Any idea on the year of the axle? I know GM switched to the 10 bolt rear around 80ish but with the weight of the full top you might be better off looking for a larger axle IMO.

Imho, if they don't drain the fluids before it goes out in the lot, they must want you to drain fluids on the ground. Oil comes from the earth, it may as well return to it, lol.

A 10 bolt? A '73 should be a 12 bolt axle.

1500hd trucks came with 14bolt sf 6 lug axles, if you want to upgrade the axle

This yard drains the coolant and oil but not the axle(s). They didn't have a pan I could borrow but I can take my own at a later date.

I don't know why this one was in the boneyard since it was in very good shape.

I've recently had the rear axle completely rebuilt with a new posi carrier by a very reputable company so I won't be going to another axle.

I know for the car 10 bolts you can swap the backing plate mount and backing plate from the newer stuff up to like a 2002 S10/Blazer on to the older 7.5/8.2/.5 not sure about the trucks but sounds like a good day spent in a junkyard.

I don't think they fit the trucks. I'd guess they are the same bearings and flanges as the B-body cars, which are too big to fit the S10 brakes.

what I was getting at was the shared parts between vehicles, specifically the axle tube/bearing size so if they are both 10 or 12 bolt from trucks you maybe able to swap them.

The only reason I have to pull the axle is because the caliper mounting flange bracket goes all the way around the axle. There is no 'c' cutout and, the parking brake lining, even though it is 'c' shaped, will not expand enough to come off.

I'm with you on that. I don't have measuring calipers that big but, time will tell.

I've never heard of that in a 4x4. I thought they were 12 bolt up to 79-80s. Learn something new.

The park brake shoe will fit past the flange without any flexing, you have to tuck it around juuuuuust right. But it doesn't matter since you need the brackets too.
