Hey, y'all! Just re-joining the Square Body owner's club, with my grandpa's 78 K10. I've owned 2 other Squares over the years, but it's been a solid decade since I've had one. Just pulled my grandpa's '78 home from Oklahoma. He's had it since (basically) new and I learned to drive in it, so it holds a special place in my heart. I wanted to tow it home with the homemade tow bar, but the front diff needs rebuilt. Some seal had failed in the last 10 years or so and it was full of rust and water.

Comically, the truck is nearly exactly the same size as my '16 Colorado. If you look really closely, you can see the '78 behind the Colorado.

It took me maybe 10 minutes to get it running and driving. All it needed was a bit of holistic timing adjustment (twist the cap till it fires up), some fresh fuel, and a set of spark plugs and she banged right over.

The paint is even starting to get a bit of shine back on it after just some simple washing. I'm hopeful that an Ajax wash and a good wax will bring it back to a 10 footer. https://photos.app.goo.gl/ejEFRz6g4LPqpZsU6

Anyway, hello! Happy to be here and can't wait to share progress on the truck and re-learn some tips and tricks that I've forgotten over the years.

Sadly it isn't, lol. It's lived a tough life. It was my grandpa's daily driver from when he bought it to about 95, when he finally bought a new S10 for grandma and 'upgraded' to her old 88 Cutlass. After that, it was the farm truck and worked every weekend from then to his retirement in 2008.

I mean, all things considered it's fairly rust free (only a bit around the wheel wells and some at the passenger side door from a botched repair years ago). The chassis is mint, rust wise. The biggest spot of rust on the under-carrage is under the battery tray, and a bit of rust in the bed.

It also has a dent in the driver's door that was created by 10 year old me's head, after I lost control of the go-cart I was driving. The driver's rear fender is also rolled up from a blow out he had on the highway years ago.

Yes, our tow setup was janky, lol. But it also worked a charm. Didn't have a lick of problems driving 2000 miles at 65mph.

Keep the head dent in the driver's door. It speaks to your mental toughness for sticking with the truck ;)

Welcome!
