Hello from Texas. I just bought a 1990 Suburban Silverado V2500 4x4. I'm no mechanic, and I have thousands of questions. But, I'm trying to search and slow down before bombarding the site with a bunch of silly stuff.

It's amazing what memories this old truck has brought back. At 53 y/o, seems like most my childhood memories have a square body somewhere in there. Has been cool rekindling some of that...

One question I'm hoping someone can help with...

On the registration/title form in TX (130-U), they ask for empty weight. Does anyone know where I might find this or what I should enter?

The info is out there in some book, but I can’t tell you exactly where.

As a reference, my 1975 3/4 ton K25 goes across the scale with two passengers at about 5300 lbs, so empty is probably about 4900-5000 lbs. My guess is that your suburban would probably run about 500 lbs heavier than a pickup.

Only sticker I could find showed GVWR and the GAWRs.

I get 5643 lbs.

8600 gvw - 2957 payload = 5643.

But - title weights don't mean a hill of beans anyways.

That sounds about right. I had a '90 R2500, and it probably was around 6000#. So for the 4x4 parts, 400 extra pounds?
For comparison, my OBS C1500 Burb is around 5100# on the title, and my OBS C3500 5.7 crew cab long bed is 5500# on the title.
Texas used to have "car" and "truck" plates, and since Suburbans and other large SUVs are so popular here, once the state figured out many people were licensing them as "cars" they went to the weight based registration that we've had for the last several years. In my family, over many years, we've had 8 Suburbans; 5 squares, 2 OBS and 1 NBS. We licensed every one as a "car"/ Chevy station wagon, as long as we could. With the last two, they're on the weight based system though. I think the '99 C1500 Burb costs about $70 annually on that.....
