First is a 12 bolt rear stronger than the 10 bolt? First Off My Truck 1984 K10 400 SBC mated to a SM465 and a NP208 Transfer Case. My Front axle is what I believe to be a standard half ton GM 10 bolt. However I think my Rear Axle has been swapped by a previous owner. The Differential cover is a 12 bolt with no distinguishing marks. When I replaced the universal in the driveshaft I needed one that had larger size caps on the drive shaft and smaller caps to fit the yoke on the axle. Due to the ride height of the rear end I believe someone put 3/4 ton springs on with this axle. Here is where I start to get into my questions.
How can you tell if they are 3/4 ton springs?
The rear end of my truck sits plenty high however I would like a more level ride height. Can I just replace my front springs with 3/4 ton to even it out?
What is a better riding spring 2 leaf 3/4 ton or 3 leaf 3/4 ton?

I don't have terrible wheel hop but I do think it is excessive should I shim the rear axle for a better alignment due to the higher 3/4 ton springs in the rear?
If I should shim the rear how much or how do I determine how much?
