heat stove help

This is my first post but i have been following this forum since starting to epairr 77c10 scottsdale and it truly amazing how much you can pick up here with a little time .MY Question is about this odd magnet looking coil on my exhaust ,just one side im assu mming was going to heat stove in1977 .IS This possibly clogled and causeing my exhaust to be nasty white /grey smoke/OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE thanks in advance more dumb questions to follow

Thats the EFE valve(early fuel evaporation)
That magnet looking thingy is just a weight, and the coil is like that found in a carburetor choke.
when the engine is cold, that valve is closed, forcing the exhaust from the passenger side manifold, up through a passage in the intake manifold(called a crossover, also feeds the EGR valve) to heat the area underneath the carburetor to help atomize the fuel. when the engine warms up, the valve opens for normal operation. if you can operate it by hand, it should not be clogged. it sounds to me like you may have the very common leaky valve stem seal problem.
