There's a sweet suburban in this movie. Has anybody ever done a snorkel on a square body? Just thought it would be cool to do haha. I first saw this movie when I was little and loved that suburban from the start.

Lol that was live footage with a real volcano and real lava. Nobody is supposed to know, but another guy crossed in front of him in a bronco and burst into flames and died. Only the burb made it through lol. That should be next years super bowl commercial.

Actually it wasn't a Burb it was a crew cab with a utility bed, looked like a CUCV too. I find it hard to believe they used real lava. Where did you find that out? I been Googling the **** out of it and can't find anything. All I can find is how that was not possible to do with real lava.

lol **** sorry man. That was a joke. I often forget how hard it is to convey tone via text. That is a bad ass movie but I'm not sure how they filmed that scene.

You got me curious after that, so I too spent some time on Google trying to research it with no avail. But as one would expect, with a surface temp of 1700*f, your tires would immediately turn to mush and catch fire. I am going to keep looking into it to see if I can find out how they did it. Pretty good special effects for that time period.

I'm pretty sure it was gas. The only problem I could see would be the distributor but hey if I had a snorkel and big enough balls I would try it. Especially in a disaster situation if it was my only option!

Yes all four trucks used were gas. As for the lava it was a SF mixture and coating.

This was done on computer at the studio.

The river was the Coeur d' Alene river in NW Idaho. The town used as the fictional Dante's Peak was Wallace, Idaho and some shots were up near Kellogg, ID. The river has a very rocky bottom and banks.

The snorkel is for a Toyota 80 Series. and needs some heating which is detailed on www.facebook.com/Dantes.peak.suburban
