Most may know that I am swapping an 8.1/4l80e into my 84 dually. Figured the startup would be better with a new thread. Built a pressure tank out of a 2gal propane tank. Drilled the bottom for a tire air valve and installed a t in the outlet. ran through a gate valve and a 140 micron filter and to the engine. Shot 8 qts of oil into it and hit the key after installing a manual pressure gauge. Fuel pressure at 55 psi. Engine started right up after sitting for a couple of years. Problem was the oil pressure gauge NEVER moved off 0. Pre oiling should have filled the pump but evidently it didn't. Dropped the oil pan( came out after raising the engine about an inch) and started looking for any damage. Prelubing put enough oil in the bearing that they were fine. Oil pump showed no sigh of pumping oil. Bought a new pump and went ahead and put in fresh rod and main bearings. Made sure the pump was primed. Put it all back together and now have 40+ lbs oil pressure. Dodged a bullet on that one!
