I bought my '79 Stepside three years ago and it has sat the majority of that time as I had other major projects to do. Currently it runs good but is basically an old worn out farm truck that somehow never got any body damage. It has a three on the tree which likes to get stuck in gear and while the motor runs good, it is tired and I live on state highway so that’s why I don’t drive it. I have a fresh engine and tranny sitting in the garage with zero miles on them and I am finally getting back into truck mode.
The truck has the original integrated head 250ci and the new drivetrain waiting in the wings is a non-integrated 250 with a TH 350 transmission (with factory ac and ps!) I like inline sixes. The interior was fairly trashed and I picked up some black buckets from a friend last month and a new dash cap recently, once I add new carpet and paint the door panels it will look pretty decent. I also swapped the '79 grill for a 73/74. Lastly I very recently picked up this rare ‘70s Stepside camper top from Tony Kee and it cleaned up really nice.
I live near lake Tawakoni East of Dallas and this is my 9th square body and my 6th stepside. I am looking forward to turning some wrenches again and rolling down the road again. I am going to pull the clip off to do the drivetrain swap so I can detail the engine bay. I guess that’s it for now.
