@oldretiredafguy Attached are some photos of the engine test stand which I built over a decade ago specifically for my Big Block build. Am currently preparing to build another test stand for Small Blocks. Am posting these up so Mike can see them since it's not possible to add photos in a PM. If anybody has any suggestions, ideas, or comments whether good or bad I would like to hear them. Let er rip......:rockit:

P. S. The test stand I am preparing to build is meant to be passed down to future generations of Gearheads, aka kids, grandkids, great grandkids so will be built to meet outstanding safety specifications!!!

Nice, looks very stout!

If I ever bought one, I'd like to see a heavy shield to catch a grenading balancer or flexplate/ flywheel. I've seen quite a few come apart working around dynos when I was younger.

Excellent thoughts, here is how I covered the flexplate. :smoke2:

You really did a good job on it!!!

Is that an actual SFI scattershield or a bell housing? Seen a lot of bellhousings blow apart, especially the aluminum ones.

I'm not trying to be a PITA, just seen more than a few mishaps on dynos and at the strip. Friend of mine got his legs torn up on an old front engine dragster by a flywheel ringgear, similar to when Don Garlits almost lost his legs.

I've seen probably 5-10 balancers come apart, 1-2 converters, 1-2 flywheels, 1-2 flexplates, lots(probably close to a 50 plus) of cheap chrome pulleys, alternator fans, lots of fan belts. Usually goes right through hood, floorpans, fenders, etc whatever is in its path.

Call me superstitious or what not, I don't like being around dyno's or test stands when under load, or standing in front of cars when rev'd. A lot of shops don't always strap cars down when chassis dyno on mild cars but I do it every time.

I personably wouldn't want the gauges mounted on the radiator!

On the one we had, we made a small little instrument panel, ignition switch with a push button for the starter, water temp, oil pressure, is pretty much all you need. But it was all prewired and hardlined, so you just drop the motor in and hook it up and go.

Build a battery tray! If you plan on using batteries to start em that is, we put ours on the passenger side pretty much under the rad. Just need a few pieces of angle iron.

Edit: maybe a spot for a small fuel cell as well, I always wished we had done that on the one at the shop, I'd like get mine built as well.

@Bennyt

I guess I have been lucky. Do flywheels typically grenade? Same for flex plates, and dampeners? I was going to break in my 292 on a stand, but if things will fly apart, I will break it in installed in the truck.
