Can I mount my engine stand like this? The arms on engine stand aren't long enough to reach the top 2 bellhousing bolt holes.

If you think you can bolt it tight/secure enough to work on it with your toes under there, go ahead.
3/8 bolts with washers?

You building a boat anchor with your phord motor?

No I havent. Its on there now. All it is a block and crankshaft. The rest has been removed from the block. Its 390 Ford big block.

I bet the arms will reach the top bell housing bolts if you put the bottom bell housing arm bolts on correctly. The actually head should be in the center of the block, then the arm reach to their prespective positions. You have the head flush with the oil pan. Loosen those bottom arms and let the other arms reach for the top holes. :grd:

At a second look, that is pretty damn tight on the bottom ones too, but you still might have just enough. Loosen all the bolts to do with the bottom bolts, both on the head and the block. Then try again for the top arms.

Wont reach. I'm like 2-3 inches short from the bottom bellhousing bolt holes. My arms are 5 1/2in long.

So then how about going with the top of the motor bolts and the middle ones instead of the bottom ones and the middle ones? Will that reach? If not, just run with what you got. You can at least build the short block with it that way, but I think I'd refrain from bolting the heads on using that stand.

I agree on the stand. I think this stand is just meant for small blocks due to how short the arms are. I'll have to shop for engine stand for big block engines.

Length of arms don't matter. GM uses the same bell housing motors for all motors, I4, I6, V6, Small block, Big Block etc. But, using the top and middle holes will have more supprt than the bottom bolts.

I think even all my cheap engine stands reach the top and bottom holes. I've never mounted up one of those boat anchors though.

I think he should have went with the other two holes higher on the bellhousing. Once he gets the heads on the center of gravity is going to be high, and the first time he rolls it over if he aint careful that thing is gonna flop to the floor, and crush whatever is under it.
