I'm running a 1405 Edelbrock on my truck, and if I start the engine every day or two, it fires right up after one pump on the gas pedal.
However, if the truck sits three or more days, I have to flip the manual switch on the electric fuel pump to refill the carb with gas.
I know the Q-jets are famous for the well plugs to leak and you'll have a dry carburetor.
Is this a weird syndrome I have with this particular carburetor ?
I also have noticed after I shut the engine off I hear a gurgling sound of fuel returning to the tank.
There shouldn't be a siphon to return the gas to the tank.

Also, I am curious as to why I need a fuel pressure regulator on my Edelbrock.
Been running it many years now without one.

Tank vent clogged? Maybe try running with the cap loose and see how it does after a few days.

The truck has the stock driver's side tank and a mickey mouse aftermarket (maybe homemade) passenger side tank.
The truck does the same thing no matter which tank I run from.
I believe the vent is fine on the stock tank, and the passenger side has a gas cap that I am sure vents by the way it fits.
There are no hoses coming into the top of the passenger tank and no sending unit.
The fuel outlet from the passenger side tank is a fitting at the bottom of the tank.

You need a fuel pressure regulator for an Edelbrock? My used freebie 1406 came with one, but I'm not using it. Maybe it's for trucks with aftermarket fuel pumps?

Try pinching off your make shift tank at a rubber connection point and see if you isolate that tank from the system if it still does it.
