Opened up the rear axle today for a fluid change and to confirm my axle ratio. Ring gear has 41 teeth & the pinion gear has 10. This matches my RPO codes on the sticker under the hood. My RPO codes also indicate that I have a locking differential but I don’t see the usual spring etc. that are in a limited slip diff.

Probably a Gov lock. The 14 bolt carriers are really hard to see inside.

Yes, that is a GM Gov Lock diff (RPO = G80). The 10.5" 14 bolt Gov Lock is identifiable by the 2 round cutouts that are close together (just to the right of the ring gear in the pic), this diff does not have visible springs for ID.

14 bolt FF (10 1/2" ring gear) the carrier splits in half to access the internals. 14 bolt SF (9 1/2" ring gear) is like most other carriers that you can see the spider gears and/or springs.

#18 is the carrier, 12-16 are the spiders and/or springs depending on the LSD or open carrier.

I guess we both learned something. I would have assumed it was open since the spring’s not right there like in the Corp 10 rear.
