Hello,
I just tore the front end apart the front wheel bearings on my C20. Ordered replacement Timken bearings, set 3 and set5. Turns out that the new bearings are too small. So my question is-are there any common upgrades on front brakes, or something that would use a larger bearing set?
Qualifier- just got gifted this old truck and it is my first chevy since the 66 c20 in high school.
Thanks,
Steve

You need to find out which braking system you have to get the right bearings. There is a different set of bearings for the 8600 gvwr brakes vs the 7200 gvwr brake system. My 8600 gvwr C20 used SET45 and 15103S. Be warned that 15103S did NOT come with the race. It needs to be ordered separately. I didn't know this but fortunately ordered new rotors and they had new races.

Brakes codes should be on the RPO sticker on the glove box. 8600 gvwr is JB7. I think 7200 is JB6.

Thanks Jake,
It is free 'gift truck' used out a placer mine, gobs a river crossings- couldn't make out the numbers on the old bearings, I think they just packed them once a summer and went with it.
I have gotten halfway there by dumb persistence. It is an 8600 GVW, so that makes sense.
Would that info be incorporated in the VIN? The VIN reads as a 8000 gvw, but the glove box label say camper special, 2931 payload capacity.
This truck used to have a 6.2 diesel, and I was thinking that it might be a camper special and might therefore have 1T hubs and brakes
Thanks for the info, my last chevy truck was a 52 deluxe cab with a 216 what a mtn goat.
Thanks again,
Steve
