Dash Pad Covers

Has anyone tried the covers that go over the original cracked dash pads. Are they worth tying? Fitment>

They have been around for years. They tend to warp and crack after a few years. Not terrible, but noticable.

Some people are happy with how they fit and can't tell a difference. Other people can spot one from a mile away. It just depends on how much you pay attention to detail.

Thank You for the input, the repro are fairly expensive so I thought I might try. No going to be a show truck, hopefully just a cool driver

I had one on a 2001 Ram and couldn't tell until I had to do some work on it. But the C10 dashes are not the smooth hard plastic that the Ram had. If your dash is cracked and the cracks have curled the cover probably won't work right and it'll be wavy.
I'm not a big fan of these but the carpeted covers should be available and hide the waves better.

I installed one this summer. I love mine. Turned out great. Can't believe I waited this long to do it!! Was fairly easy. Just follow directions.

Some say there like a bad toopay (I have no idea how to spell it. Man's hair piece) . Mine for pretty well. Not perfect. I would not use it in a restoration or a show truck but more than fine for a work truck or a daily driver. I paid like $115ish dollars through Rock Auto I think it was. Mine was Coverlay brand.

That's why you follow the instructions. Which say to trim all these raised portions back flat so that the cover will lay flat. You just take a razor knife and trim all that stuff back .

I've had one of the 'carpeted' types on mine for many years. I also use a sun-shield on the windshield when it's parked and it has held up very well.

The truck I bought had a cover which had really nice paint on it but then they just glued it to the old dash without preparing the dash in any way. It took a nice cover and made it look bad. I took it off so I could start preparing the dash like an autobody repair shop would and then I will reglue properly.

From what I saw is if you prepare your dash, take off all of the tags and badging, paint the dash, glue the cover on properly and then paint the cover and glued dash together.

Do a trial fit with the badging as you may have to trim the cover. Would have saved me alot of grief.

Thanks guys; I would definitely trim the curled edges and fill the cracks before starting. Good tips , thanks for the input. Sadly, by the time I even get the Rock auto one here (western Canada) it ends up being around $350 is Can funds

Yikes!! I guess there all shipped out of the US and shipping is $150 for them all? There is several people making and selling them. I got mine from Rock Auto , they sell coverlay. LMC also sells one, but again they ship from the US so I guess shipping is the same thing?

Just ordered one from LMC for my crewcab so I will see how it turns out. My dash is toast so anything will be better than what's on it now.

I have done several on older and new square body C10s, and later model Silverados, and they are worth every penny-you just need to prep the under surface to keep it solid enough which is not much to do on the C10s-to start clean the surface really good with some brake cleaner, then windex, nothing oily, and cut down any high spots-once done set it in place to see how it fits- the dash cap will come with a tube of silicone and just puts dabs of it as on the instructions to hold it in place when you are all set to install-prep in advance how you will weight down the dash cap since you want it slightly pressed down while the silicone dries-and also on the face of the dash if its on a square body that has the fake wood insert-just make sure to practice ahead of time how you will weight it down not that complicated-and do not over use the silicone or you may have a mess to clean up-

Thanks for the tips and tricks. I ordered my dash cap from brotherstrucks.com. Dang thing still hasn't shipped out yet. Yeah probably won't order any thing from them again. After talking to a guy there they don't stock parts they order them when you do then ship them to you after they get them. Therefore taking way to long. I'm way to impatient for that.

Yea I ordered from Rock Auto and even they don't stock these. There shipped direct from the factory. At least it didn't go to rock Auto then me, just direct shipped from factory. It did say allow 3 days or a week or something for it. I am thinking Coverlay may make them to order but not sure?

I'm looking at using the plastic cover or even the carpeted one. Anyone have a picture on what the carpet one looks like?
