Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t there supposed to be a built in lip here to hold the board not just the metal strip I removed. I’m tearing down to do bodywork and noticed this.

Those angle strips along the bedsides are supposed to have a few stitch welds holding them to the bedside, I believe.

Thank you! That would explain the middle pic with the weld holes.

If you look at my pics I have a lot of spot weld holes to repair. Is there a more efficient way of reinstalling that strip? Modern adhesive’s?

The angle strips on each side were spot welded in and had threaded studs welded in to go through the outer boards. LMC and others make outer angle strip covers that go over the top. If the threaded studs are in bad shape you can carefully grind them off/punch them out & then drill holes in the new cover. I used stainless torx bolts and nuts to hold outer boards, & angle strips together. Be careful when drilling boards and new angle strips to make sure your properly aligned.
