First just want to introduce myself briefly my name is Tim and i am from Tx. I just picked up a 79 c10 (really its a GMC)... Anyways its a Short Wide pickup. I plan on making it a street truck/drive to work truck. It came with a junked 396 that i sold off already because it was not at all going to be a budget friendly motor to build due to some really BAD machine work... I Found a 96 z28 i can pick up for 1300$ in good shape with the LT1 and t56 (i want the truck to have the 6 speed in it anyways).. My question is how hard is it to do the LT1 swap vs LS? I know most of yall will jump on the Vortec LS swap it band wagon right away. which brings me to my second question... would i still be better off to sell the LT1 and get the 5.3 or 6.0? and will it work with the pull style t56? and finally a question ive been trying to figure out. why do you have to "tune" a LT1 or LS when you swap it into another vehicle if you retain the stock ECM? besides to remove the security and EGR codes?

Hello from Dallas! I'd go lt1 if your already have a line on one. It's not a bad engine and there really isn't much more to benefit when going to a ls5.3 unless you go 6.0

Its an OBD2 ECM and standard SB Chevy mounts, its a more bolt in swap than the LS engines.

I don't have personal experience tuning them. I'd get a mail order tune from black bear or pcmforless. I'm in Carrollton :)

Yea I didn't see it there either. I'd give them a call tomorrow and see what they have to offer.

Heck you may end up not having to tune it Idk. I have a friend with a 5.7 vortec in his 94 Silverado.I think he just dropped it in and ran it.
