Cold Air Intake options

anyone ever try one of these? I've seen the oem options that route it to the core support.

with this I can put 4" cone style filters inline, then continue the ducting to the core support knock outs. not the most attractive thing in the world for a truck, but there certainly wouldn't be any shortage of air movement through 2 4" cone filters and the colder air inlet temps in our 100 degree summers certainly wouldn't hurt. the efi would automatically compensate for those of you reading this that are thinking that the extra o2 would lean out my AFR.

i'd probably sand the crap out of it and paint it.

Personally, I'd use a reproduction dual snorkel air cleaner or a home brewed type. There's plenty of room under the hood of a truck. Those ugly ones like above really only make sense to me if hood clearance is an issue.

I saw that one. One guy did a YouTube review and showed his filter element was only dirty where the tubes come in. He mentioned that his truck ran rich with it installed.

I personally have never looked inside of an OEM one like yours. However, one of the comments made was about how spectre made the mistake of filling up the housing with a filter. As opposed to the OEM, which apparently has space around the filter and metal fins to direct the air around the full circumference of the filter element.

I guess I could try eBay to find one like yours. I might still get one as an experiment.

On my base, there is an air baffle just inside the snorkel. This is from ebay, but the same style. You can see a curved shadow in the lower left.

The rule of thumb with the average V-8 is 1 hp for every 10 degree (F) drop in intake air temp. That works out to about 1% for 30 degrees.
