Days of searching for 5/16" "high pressure" fuel line for my 85 EFI conversion. What a PITA! Parts are scarce these days. No doubt a result of the 60+ cargo ships sitting off the CA coast unable to unload due to shortage of labor. Why? ******* government! Why work when the administration will pay you to stay home.

Beside myself with disgust for our leaders. But, on a brighter note, I discovered an unknown speed shop in town that actually had the 5/16" hose I needed.

Carry on

I'm waiting on parts for two vehicles as we speak. Fuel tank strap for one and a power steering line for another.

Feel the frustration. Just got a quote (work, not home) for over $15k for 320 lf of barb wire fence, installed!
Reason? The State transportation dept has their head so far up their overtly lazy @sses (has gotten much worse since the entire DOT staff ,except inspectors , got sent home to work over 18 months ago and still at home, but now with mandated vax by our governor) that they refuse to acknowledge supply chain issues.
I can’t get the spec materials with certs from the approved supplier because they have supply issues (and don’t really GAF either), and a subcontractor who has spec materials on hand, with certs, is going to get to make 200% profit while I ( the company) will be in the red by 50% on this item.

Oh and now I either need an exception and a weekly Covid test or the jab to be present on any State project.

I’ve never even considered donning a tin foil hat, but it’s becoming apparent that, in the last year and a half, everything has changed and not for the good….

All you guys bitchen about parts try BEING in the repair business. Image tell your customers you can't fix their car because parts are on back order and have an unknown release date.....
I can only imagine… at least you aren’t contractually bound to provide a repair or service for a set price you may have quoted 4 years ago, on a set schedule.
My little example is just the most recent. My projects alone, have taken somewhere around a $1 million hit in the last year or so due to what started as a pandemic and is now a global and political cluster **** of epic proportions….

What % of work do you estimate is affected by supply chain issues? And how much is due to not having sufficient employees to complete the work?
On one project, only have 1 crew active right now due to delays (again by the State and their poor administration of contracts) and lost 83% of that crew due to the State vax mandate!

Dang, it’s not even that bad in Commiefornia. I’m on a state job and no mandate. I’m sure someone somewhere is pushing for it though.

Just wait buddy… hope for your sake Cali stays not quite as forked up as WA, but I believe our libtard governor and legislature is taking the utmost advantage of this situation in hopes of being voted most socialist at the next National Libtard Convention!

I could down a really rabbit hole with this. I'd say around 30% or so are effected by parts that are currently unobtainable. I'd say 100% are effected by increased prices.

For a while we could not get 0W20 motor oil. For like 3 weeks everyone was back ordered. Now it's up in price.

Had to tell a woman the other day we could not get a PCM for her SUV, back ordered with no release date. Tried all sources including buying it out from the dealer. No dice. Her SUV won't run for what probably a few months.... Maybe longer... Had her crying on the phone, she's like what do I do.... How do I pick up the kids, go to work ect. My answer, I'm sorry I don't know.

Those are just a few examples.

Right now more than ever I'm glad to have the square.

Yes we are short staffed, and this is where I could go down that rabbit hole. This has little to do with the pandemic and more to do with the industry not keeping up. You have heard the story from me before. Why would a young person want to go though trade school to start in an industry that pays $18 - $20 an hour, when you can start at Jack in the Box at $16 - $18? Top pay for mechanics has flat lined for the last 20 years while the cost of living has tripled. It use to be a great living, now not so much. The auto industry at least around here is doing that to itself. And guys like me are on their way out the door because we're frustrated with that shiit

I don't mean to attack you personally with this so please don't take it this way, but I'm trying to understand, but don't really get it. I'm a native, I was born here and I've seen the population boom in the Puget sound area from back in the early 90's when it started and up to today. Folks move in with different ideas and that's fine. But you sit there and say stuff like you did in that quote and I don't understand why are you here. If this state is so terrible why don't you move to somewhere that would fit your ideals better so those of us that have been here, and like what we have built can continue to have it? Again. I'm not attacking you I'm trying to understand where your coming from. Yes I do agree that there are problems in the Wa government, but I also think your comments are uncalled for.

I work at a Caterpillar and Cummins dealer and our parts availability is hit or miss as well. Lots of stuff is USA sourced, but come from states that are shutdown. I don't think this is going to improve until people get back to work...

Wonder if all the citizens in the US stopped paying taxes until the US Executive and legislative branches were replaced with some mature adults, instead of a bunch of whiny 5yr olds?
