Welcome back 1Low. Been awhile since you visitied.
How's the new house? Settled in yet???

Looks like you got a plan together on the truck. There is a couple things I'd look into doing different on the trans. I'd check into the sunshell. I hear GM has finally made a good one. I also understand its actually better than the Beast by 1 feature. If I've been told properly, the new GN sunshell uses a rollerized bearing instead of a thrust washer.
Also, the Zpack that includes 14-16 single sided clutches, are thin clutches and plates. The failure that 3/4 clutch pack has is that the plates will cone. Would it not makes sense, thinner plates will cone also? Zpack may be OK and work better for OEM applications, but its not so wonderful for hipo use according to some strip trans builders. There is also an aftermarket Alto 3/4 clutch pack that is said to work much better than the Z pack for a hipo application. You might want to do a bit of research on those 2 items. Alot of it is personal preference, but I thought I'd at least inform you about the other options and you can decided for yourself. Keep us updated.

Apparently there is a better sunshell than the beast and it's called a smart shell, but at twice the price of the beast, its too much for my budget. Here's the beast: "

This Heavy Duty sunshell easily solves a somewhat common problem, the stripping out or the breakage of the rear splined area of the factory sunshell. The Beast is the strongest sunshell on the aftermarket available. Comes with low support thrust washer. Fits all 4L60E's."

As far as the z pak, I went with The pro street or strip only 3/4 clutch pack. Here's it's description:
"

This 3-4 clutch setup has proven to last longer in high horsepower/torque combinations than any other 3-4 clutch setup so far. This setup is a "must" for high horsepower applications. Giving the longest life with the Trans-Go "modified" Performance Shift kit."
"I use 9 (.065") Borg-Warner 4L65E Hi-Energy clutches, and 8 (4 or 5 .060" & 3 or 4 .080") Kolene steels, 1 (.128") top pressure plate, 1 (.220") oem bottom pressure plate, and a (.058"-.062") snap ring. Set clutch clearance at .022"-.035". I have found that this works best."

Yeah as far as the house, everything's great, just been working so much I haven't had time to enjoy it.

Not sure if you have the push button 4wd but definitely don't launch in Auto-4wd.

That setup should be pretty fun though :boti:

How high of an RPM are you going to take it up to in tuning?

As high as it makes power. The way I'll determine that is by Dyno, track times, or just drive it and hold it in gear till it noses over... Probably be about 67-6800 RPM... Nothing too crazy.

I launch 4 hi

This is something I was just thinking about. Doesn't this cause some amount of binding? I'm getting ready to drop a mild 454 in my Blazer, as well as a 3.42 geared 14bolt semi-floater (6-lug). It has 33 inch tires on it. I was thinking about the possibility of launching in 4low, which is 2:1 in a 205 (which I'm also putting in). That should make for some pretty good gearing at the track, but was unsure of a binding issue. The other option is to twin stick the 205, and just run it in rwd-low.

That would have to be a short track to launch in 4-lo! You would probably wind out at 40-60 mph in about 250 feet! As long as the gear ratios match front and rear there wont be any binding till you go to turn around at the end of the track. When you're WOT the front/rear tires are gonna slip enough to prevent any straight line bind.

Maybe my thinking is flawed. Wouldn't it be about the same as a passenger car with 4.10's and a 275/60/15?

2:1 at the t-case = 6.84 at the axle, with 3.42 gears. You can try this gear ratio calculator to be sure... http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
Use the drop-down menus to select trans/t-case, but leave the under drive blank. It will have the expected feet per minute / rpm for low range, as well as mph / rpm for high range in each gear.

And a 205 is 1.96:1, but close enough to 2:1 for guesstimations.
