Hey everyone, im new to the forums and the new owner of a 79 c20 camper special. I joined to get your guys opinion on which cam to run with the heads im installing. ive read that many people like the voodoo 60103, but the c20 is heavy and unsure if anyone is running it currently on a modified 350 with stock converter.

I have a set of vortec heads currently at the machine shop for decking and machining for larger spring pockets and such for higher lift cams. also have an edelbrock 600cfm carb, and longtubes ill be throwing on.

I pretty much want the biggest cam i can get away with, without having to swap the converter, i want this thing to be able to get up and move. if any of you have experience or recommendations i will be highly grateful!

That will be too big.

If you want a snotty idle, get the Lobe Separation Angle much tighter, like 108° or 107° or even 106°. Keep the duration no bigger than around 218° at 0.050 maximum. The increased overlap with the tight lobe centers will make the idle rough, but give a good strong mid-range, which is what you want in something heavy. But, too rough, and it will struggle to idle in gear.

Big cams need loose converters, better gears, and high compression.

Single pattern, Sig Erson OR the L46 cam.

Youre really killin it with a stock convertor, its not gonna matter much what cam you pick because youre tying one arm behind it's back and askin it to row a boat.

C20 camper special? Big cam?

Are you going to be hauling or pulling anything more than 2-3 people?

Lots of things we need to know, for example:

compression
axle ratio
tire height
intake manifold type
