I found some rust while doing the teardown on my 82 that i wasnt expecting. Its about 7 inches long right at the bottom of the seat hump on the drivers side. I'm planning on doing the repair myself but i'm a little unsure which patch panels i need to order to do the repair. When i look at the catalogs from LMC, Brothers, etc i'm pretty sure i need the inner and outer cab rockers but the parts in the catalog never quite look right.

Unless theres an easier way to deal with this rust? Cut it out and patch it from underneath with just sheetmetal? I'm a newbie when it comes to actual bodywork, but i'm a pretty competent welder and have a Mig, Arc, and Plasma cutter to use.

Any help would be great.

Ya cab corners are on the list. It’s funny when I start looking at the pics on LMCs website the panels don’t seem to make sense for fitment.

I think I'd cut out the rusted area and just fab up a new patch. it's a pretty straight forward patch as far as shape and size goes.

It all makes sense when it’s apart

Thanks, those pics are actually quite helpful. I must have watched a few hours of YouTube videos on patching squarebody panels and still couldn’t get a nice clear pic of what I want to do. I was a little hesitant to just start cutting away.

I’m working on two of these trucks at the same time so this has been fun. This old girl has been sitting for more than 10 years so I’ve spent the last few weeks getting the mouse crap/nests out of it. It’s been a real can of worms. It’ll clean up nice but it’s going to take far longer than I planned.

Oh I know, the 82 I’m just trying to save and make a useable farm truck for now. My 79 is in my garage getting lowered and new wheels put on. The plan before winter is over is to redo the bench seat, get a new headliner, new dash and finish the stereo. Maybe more if time and my wallet permit it.

Previous owners and the booby traps they leave behind are always fun. I went from a few electrical issues to this:

But in the end its all worth it. Capt Morgan and I have bonded well too.

Previous owner on this 82 is my dad so I can’t say too much. The truck was used pretty hard on our farm for a lot of years before it was parked. I just wish we had taken more care with how we stored it away. This one has lots of sentimental value built into it, so while my plans for now are really just to clean it up into a useable farm truck, eventually I want to make it into something nice.
