I've seated and tapped it with a plastic hammer as well as I can what else can I do?

#1 looks like the wrong bearings.
I can't picture in my head what would be keeping the rest up in the air like that. Looks like the crank isn't even touching.

You need to get a micrometer and double check everything
or take it to your machine shop and have them do it
it looks like wrong bearings to me but check everything
I know it gets frustrating but you will get it figured out

Measure the parts. Its either incorrect bearings regardless of what it says or the crank is not -.020 and somewone made a mistake.

You never use force installing bearing shells. They simply snap into place with your fingers and that's it.
Since you're new to this, IMO, you should stop right now, load the block and crank into your vehicle, and take them, and the bearing shells for the mains, and rods, back to the machine shop.
Pay them to install the crank, pistons, and rods. This is an absolutely critical part of a rebuild and there is zero tolerance for any kind of error. If you screw this portion of the rebuild up, the engine will last about 1 minute after initial start.......before it spins, or otherwise eats a bearing, destroying the crankshaft (again).

That's not even close to fitting! Something major is wrong here. Like trying to put a large 2.45" journal crank in a 2.30" journal block. Or a 2.65" journal crank in a 2.45" block. Gotta do some measuring for sure.# 1...
Did this exact same crank once fit in that block?

I don't think it is you doing something wrong
I think someone made a mistake ether on the crank or bearing
did you have the crank turned or buy it

Bearing fits crank fine wen not in block. Wen inserted in the very clean block and properly seated it still has a gap
