Hi all,

Could someone with experience of the differences between stepside and fleetside please comfirm or deny wheter the bed cross sills are the same for both stepside and fleetside?

According to the description on https://www.brotherstrucks.com/54-87-BED-CROSS-SILL-STEPSIDE/productinfo/BCS72SS/73-87/ it sure seem that way?

"This is the metal supports located between the frame and the bed on your truck. They come complete with two frame tabs on each channel. Fleetside and longbed owners see reinforcing strips. Reinforcing strips are used between bed cross sills on longbeds, fleetsides and some stepsides. A shortbed uses 3 a longbed uses 4. "

I have an 81 C10 fleetside longbed.

Thanks for your support!

I can't tell you that they're the same, I looked all over the Internet for new bed rails for my bed. And I decide it wasn't worth buying them, spending $100 in shipping and then paying someone to install them because I don't have the right tools! So I just recently when out and bought a rust free bed from Texas. I got the bed cheaper than the labor and parts cost.

I don't think they are the same I think stepsides are shorter and I thought I saw a pic of them and they sit opposite the "L" bottom went down on the frame instead of on the bed.

I feel your pain we've got 2 nice short beds here but the cross sills are shot. i'm actually thinking of buying one for a stepside chop it in half, cut off my old rotted ends and then weld or bolt them onto the bed, rivets or whatever.

after checking it out I don't think they are the right height. lmc says the tall ones for stepside are 2 inch and the small ones are 1 inch I'm pretty sure, well my fleetside they are 3 inch.
